I’ve got weekend listening for you!

Bring joy and fandom into your life with Ann Pornel

Welcome to At The End Of the Day.

🎉 This is my 100th newsletter 🎉

If you’re new here, welcome!

How to bring joy into your life

What’s been getting you through the pandemic? Let me take you back to my cake phase.

As the world went into lockdown in the early spring of 2020, I was looking for moments of escape. One thing I could do was bake and eat cakes.

When my friends began talking about the comfort-food feel of the Great Canadian Baking Show, I began to watch and immediately fell in love with Ann Pornel, one of the show’s hosts. She’s a comedian, she has a killer fashion sense and she is joy personified. What’s not to love?

During that time, as you may know, another thing that got me through was my newfound fandom for BTS. I fell down the rabbit hole and still don’t want to get up.

Fast forward about one hundred newsletters (can you believe it?) and here we are!

Welcome to my very first podcast episode of At The End Of the Day featuring your new BFF, Ann Pornel.

I wanted to talk with Ann about how she brings fandom and joy into her life because at this point in time *checks watch* WE ALL REALLY NEED IT.

This conversation with Ann gave me energy. Have a listen and let me know if you feel the same.

Let me know what you think!

It’s a special thrill to put something out into the world that is personal.

I’m so stoked by every response I’ve gotten back on this episode so far. If you’ve reached out to me, know that it feels really great to hear kind words on a creative project.

While the podcast is still brand new, it has already been mentioned in the Acast Mic Drops newsletter1, the Vocal Fry newsletter2 (written by Michal Stein, who is an absolute delight) and in Broadcast Dialogues (cool, thanks!). If you like what you’re hearing, tell a friend and drop a review at Apple Podcasts here.

As ever, you can hit reply to this email to write me back.

Strong and Free nominated for a DPA! 🎉

If you’re looking for more podcast recommendations, Strong and Free, a show we made at Media Girlfriends, was nominated for a Digital Publishing Award (DPA) this week! This podcast is an audio and web video series on Black history in Canada, in both English and French. It’s already an award-winning show and we are so excited that it is continuing to pick up accolades. Big high fives to the folks at Historica Canada and everyone on the Media Girlfriends team. We made the whole thing without meeting face-to-face during the early days of the pandemic (see: Cake Era). I’m so proud. Have a listen and forward it to your teacher friends, this one’s for them — use it in class!

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend,

Hannah
